NATIONAL MENTORSHIP PRO-
GRAMME
The National Mentorship Programme
aims to:
Provide support systems for ‘at-
risk’ youth.
Encourage individuals to take
responsibility for their thoughts,
feelings, perception and behaviour.
Each individuals new and more
positive ways of relating to their
peers.
Enable youths to strengthen their
leadership and management
skills and widen their career
opportunities.
Promote community wellness
by inculcating sound values and
positive attitudes.

For the period October 2012 to March
2013:
68 applicants (Mentors) were
screened
and moved to the 2nd
stage of recruitment. Of this
number
40 persons completed
Psychological Assessment
Screening and
37 persons were
deemed eligible
for training as
Mentors. From this number,
28
new Mentors were trained (12
males and 16 females).
20 new mentoring relationships
were initiated.
20 Mentors and Mentees
completed
their one year
mentoring relationship. Of this
amount
11 relationships were
extended for a further 3-6
months
as assessment of those
mentees revealed that further
mentoring was needed.
14 persons from the Central,
East and Port of Spain regions
attended Focus group discussions
with Stakeholders on the
Programme’s success and areas
for improvement were held.
Certificates were awarded to 124
mentors and 287 mentees.
