SDU Social Work Initiative
Via this initiative Social Displacement
Officers provide social work intervention
(from assessment to referrals) and
psycho-social services to residents at
the CSDP with the aim of rehabilitating
and reintegrating them into society.
Socially
displaced
persons
A total
of 218 persons - 185 males
and 33 females
- were assessed
and admitted to drug rehabilitation
facilities. Additionally, counselling
was provided for clients as well as
advocacy services with their families
and employers.
Street Outreach Programme
This programme seeks to provide street
dwellers with access to the various
services offered by the Ministry of the
People and Social Development, as well
as any emergency support necessary.
Field Officers of the SDU carry out
regular street outreach visits to advise
the displaced on services available.
Field Officers responded to
44 public
reports
for intervention for persons
on the streets. Field Officers continue
to assist with client transfers from
the CSDP to hospitals, clinics and
rehabilitation facilities
Rehabilitation of the Strictly
Homeless at New Horizons
A residential life and employment skills
development facility for adults. The
programme provides rehabilitation
services geared towards the social,
emotional and financial development of
persons with a view to preparation for
independent living.
Clients benefited from
856 social
work interventions
14 clients
were enrolled in
vocational training programmes.
7 clients
were assisted in obtaining
employment and
2 clients
were successfully
reintegrated.
