Relocation of the Socially
Displaced Elderly to Homes for
Older Persons
Under this initiative, elderly persons are
relocated to Homes for Older Persons
where they will receive relevant special
care. The Ministry subsidises monthly
payments for those clients who have no
income but for those in receipt of grants
from the Ministry, payment is borne by
both the client and the Ministry.

displaced

Eighteen existing clients
continued to be accommodated
and cared for at NGOs/privately
run Homes for the Elderly.
Additionally,
17 clients
continue to
be accommodated and cared for
at Hernandez Place Sanctuary.
Deportee Reception and
Integration Programme
This programme provides assistance to
deported persons with relocation and
family reintegration into society. The
SDU also assists deportees in finding
employment.
Deportees
A total
of 20 clients were received
at Piarco International Airport and
accommodation for 23 deportees
was provided by the NGO Vision on
Mission, an NGO dedicated to the
successful re-integration of ex-
prisoners and deportees into society.
Substance Abuse and
Rehabilitation Programme
This programme prepares displaced
substance abusers for reintegration by
providing them with the tools to deal
with their substance abuse issues, while
providing opportunities to learn and re-
learn relational skills.

47 clients
were
interviewed, processed and referred
for rehabilitation at the Piparo
Empowerment Centre during the
period.
