In recognition the need for informed decision making to guild development, an
investment of $12.4 million was made towards Science, Research and Development. In fiscal
2014, the two (2) new projects would be implemented to improve Breeding Units at both
Runnemede and Charlotteville. Some other notable projects include:
Cocoa Rehabilitation
Invasive Plants Control Project
Establishment of Root and Tuber Crop Planning material at repository at Lure Estate
Tobago
Coastal Zone Protection Programme
Economic Restructuring and Transformation

Diversification of Tobago’s economy continues to be an area of emphasis as $11.5
million will be allocated towards facilitating business development in Tobago. Projects expected
to be implemented in fiscal 2014 include:
continuation of the Business Incubator Programme
continued development of infrastructure for increased cassava production by the
Tobago Cassava Projects Ltd.

The Enterprise Assistance Grant Programme and the Venture Capital programme will
continue to provide seed capital for investments in emerging industries and the creation of new
economic spaces over the medium term. This region, which includes Speyside and Charlotteville
Bay, will be developed for tourism, and diversified with the involvement of the diving industry,
community events, agriculture and horticulture.
