Energy/Renewable Energy Alternatives

The Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs has plans to conduct the teaching of
renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies to four (4) secondary schools in Tobago.
The pilot projects on solar powered water heating and photo voltaic exterior lighting are targeted
for Signal Hill Secondary, Bishops High School, Roxborough Secondary and Pentecostal Light
and Life Foundation High School.

The THA continued the development of the Cove Eco Industrial Park with the
installation of a solar street lighting system, comprising 79 individual units to provide a reliable
and sustainable supply of clean energy to the Park. The Lower Castries Street Car Park which
was repaved also had solar lights installed in keeping with the THAs new image branding of
clean, green, safe and serene.
Electricity
97.
The THA will receive the sum of $1 million in fiscal 2014 for its Street Lighting
Programme and its Rural Electrification Programme. The Street Lighting Programme is designed
to upgrade and install new street lights as well as provide the necessary line and pole support
infrastructure. The Rural Electrification Programme will also provide these services to small and
rural communities not otherwise served by the national grid.
The Arts and Multiculturalism
98.
A total of $2.6 million in fiscal 2014 has been allocated towards the development of the
culture sector in Tobago. The major activities planned include the following:
•
conduct of a feasibility study for the creation of a Heritage Marine Museum, a Living
Heritage Museum and for the Coconut DUMI Festival which would entail a
feasibility study into the developing, utilising and maximising our Identified Nature
Resources Festival
•
initial outfitting and furnishing of the Orange Hill Community Workshop and Art
