CHAPTER 6: SOCIAL SECTOR PLANS FOR 2014
• Dengue Prevention and Treatment
The Ministry will adopt an integrated
management approach to treating with dengue.
In this regard the strategy would include the
following:
• Inclusion of dengue fever as an essential
component
of
the
Biology/Human
and Social Biology curriculums
of the
Caribbean Examination Council (Ordinary
Level examinations).
• Introduction of the
water barrel/tank
exchange programme
to rural areas of
Trinidad.
• Empowerment of persons to control
Ae.aegypti within “high risk” communities.
• Establishment of an 800 call in line for
complaints related to Dengue and Mosquito
infestation.

The Ministry will continue to build upon and
strengthen its initiatives and programmes aimed
at increasing the quality of its ante-natal and
post natal care. One of the initiatives undertaken
by the Ministry in its bid to reduce maternal and
childmortality is the implementation of a revised
and updated Maternal and Child Health Manual.

commence implementation of the Mental
Health Policy and Mental Health Plan.

• Implementation of a National Football
Development Plan
The National Football Development Plan will
be continued with the creation of a Football
Development Unit. The Unit will be responsible
for:
• Providing technical content and directions
for initiatives such as Small Sided Football,
National Youth Leagues and National
Academies
• Developing and disseminating National
Skills testing such as National Strength and
Conditioning Standards and Accreditation of
Clubs and Coaches
• Development of a National Curriculum
• Creation and production of support
