6.10 MINISTRY OF
NATIONAL SECURITY
The following key social initiatives will be
implemented by the Ministry of National
Security during fiscal year 2014:

ERVICE
Increase in the capacity of the Police Training
Academy for recruiting and training of recruits
and providing refresher in-service training to
officers. The improvement works projected for
the infrastructure at the PoliceTrainingAcademy
are estimated at $85.3 million dollars.
Further transformation of the Trinidad and
Tobago Police Service is expected to occur
through the implementationof several initiatives.
These include:
• The deployment of technology to assist in
improving public trust and confidence in the
Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
• The commissioning of research initiatives
geared towards the strategic development
of anti-crime measures
• An expansion and increase in the execution
of Community Relations programmes
geared towards improving the police/public
interface.

In continuation of the policy to introduce cadets
to every secondary school, in Fiscal 2013/2014,
it is proposed to establish cadet units in the
under mentioned schools:
A. NORTH
• Belmont North Secondary
• Mt. Hope Secondary
• San Juan South Secondary
• St. Anthony’s College
B. SOUTH
• San Fernando Central Secondary
• Point Fortin East Secondary
C. CENTRAL
• Chaguanas West Secondary
D. EAST
• El Dorado East Secondary
• Valencia Secondary

REPAREDNESS
The ODPM is currently drafting a National
Hazard Mitigation Plan for Trinidad and Tobago,
as well as a National Flood Policy. In the fiscal
year 2014, the ODPM intends to develop the
following:-
• Crisis Communication Policy and Plan
• Business Continuity Management Policy and
Plan
• Data Management Policy and Plan
• Shelter Management Plan
• National Relief Plan
• Volunteer Engagement Plan

(CSP)
For Fiscal 2014 the CSP will engage in the
following projects:
• Youth friendly spaces (in collaboration with
the Ministry of Community Development)
• ACommunity Media Production Programme
• The Cease Fire Initiative (to reduce gun
violence in hot spot areas)
• An expansion of CSP into eight (8) new
communities
• An injury surveillance system
