6.9 MINISTRY OF
PUBLIC UTILITIES
Guided by its Strategic Plan 2011-2015,
and consistent with the Cabinet approved
mandatory goals of becoming an effective and
efficient institution, achieving excellence in
service delivery and optimising management
performance, the Ministry of Public Utilities
continues in its bid to transform itself through
the provision of strong strategic leadership and
governance to its agencies and divisions, with a
view to realising improved levels in the delivery
of efficient utility services to the national
community.
In this regard, the following is a list of key
initiatives the Ministry proposes for fiscal 2014:

PROJECTS
• Residential Electrification Assistance
Programme (REAP)
This programme seeks to accelerate residential
access to an adequate supply of electricity in a
safe and reliable manner by:
i. bringing
electricity
to
communities
(excluding squatter communities) not
currently served
ii. assisting home owners in the wiring and
rewiring of homes.
This Programme, once implemented, is
expected to provide:
• A safe and reliable supply of electricity to
qualified recipients throughout Trinidad and
Tobago
• Electrification assistance to an estimated
three hundred (300) households in year
one and four hundred and fifty (450) each in
years two and three respectively
• Reduction in the quantum of residential fires
due to faulty electrical wiring.
The Programme will comprise four (4) main
categories namely:
• Electrical Pole Extension –
Installation of
poles to access an electricity supply
• First-Time Wiring –
this involves assistance
to eligible persons who are living in homes
that have never been previously wired
• Rewiring –
this involves assistance to eligible
persons who are living in homes where the
existing electrical wiring is old and faulty,
