Parental Support Groups
These groups were established to: -
- provide a mechanism to understand
the parental role in strengthening
parent/child relationships,
- promote the personal development of
parents, to create a forum that provides
emotional support for families,
- to empower members of the
community and
- to support the concept of a healthy
functioning family.
Families/
Communities
For the period October 2012 to April
2013,
18 Parental Support Group
meetings were held.
Approximately 11-12 persons were
in attendance at each session with a
total of
174 families/communities
benefiting from the initiative.
Parenting Workshops
This Initiative seeks to:
-Empower parents to be effective
guardians
-to educate families about drug and
alcohol abuse
Families/
Communities
For the period October 2012 to April
2013,
271 persons
benefited from
workshops conducted.
Topics included: the signs and effects
of drug and alcohol abuse in families;
the signs of drug and alcohol abuse in
children; and the challenges of living
with a child or parent who abuses
drugs and alcohol and where help
could be sought.
Mediation and Counselling Cases
The objectives of this initiative are to:
Increase the use of mediation as a
conflict resolution mechanism,
To meet the social and psychological
needs of clients presented at mediation,
and
To increase the use of mediation as an
alternative to litigation.
Communities
For the period October 2012 to April
2013 a total of
3,168 persons
benefited
from the services offered –
1,557 male
and 1,611 female
.

Programme
This programme was developed to
sensitize communities about mediation
as an alternative to litigation and to
establish links and gain the trust of
the community by being a supportive
presence
Communities
From October 2012 to April 2013,
links were formed with community
development officers, village
councils and other community based
organisations via
2,730 persons
benefitted from this initiative
