Roads and Bridges

The sum of $79.8 million was expended on road improvement works in fiscal year 2013.
Major improvements to secondary roads constituted a main area of focus on road infrastructure.
Areas such as Orange Hill Road benefitted with the construction of a bridge to improve vehicular
access and safety. Other areas included Mt. St. George and Castara Road. The works included
side embankment support, box drains, slipper drains and cross-road drains were among the
engineering works on other roadways.
Transportation

The implementation of projects in Tobago by the Public Transport Service Corporation
(PTSC) and the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago were deterred by the absence of a
Board for a lengthy period during fiscal year 2013.
Drainage
45.
The sum of $11.1 million was utilised in fiscal year 2013 for drainage improvements
which included construction of box drains, culverts, gabion baskets, retaining walls, paving of
ravines and desilting of rivers. The major activities that were completed included:

construction of a box drain and paving of the waterway at the Mt. Pleasant/Lowlands
drain at a cost of $0.7 million
•
construction of retaining walls at the Canaan/Bon Accord drain at a cost of $0.7
million and
•
Paving of the water course at the Darrel Spring drain at a cost of $0.6 million
Information Technology and Infrastructure
46.
An allocation of approximately $4.5 million was expended on the improvement of
Information Technology Infrastructure on the island of Tobago. Under the Computerisation of
Tobago Programme, $3.8 million was expended on activities including
