Science, Research and Development

Projects in the area of Science, Research and Development were executed in fiscal 2013
with an investment of $0.3 million. These funds were expended on the Tobago Science Research
Centre, Tobago Sci-Tech Exposition, Popularisation of Science in Tobago Programme and the
Family Institute of Research, Science and Technology (F.I.R.S.T).
Economic Restructuring and Transformation

The
Business Development Unit (BDU)
facilitates a business and entrepreneurship
support continuum to encourage the long-term development of the indigenous entrepreneurial
class needed for sustainable economic transformation. The BDU continued its pursuit of
development of Tobago’s small business sector in fiscal 2013 with a total expenditure of $19.7
million on several projects including:
the Business Incubator Programme
Enterprise Development
Technical Assistance Programme
Venture Capital and the Establishment of the Fish Processing Company of Tobago
Tourism
35.
In an attempt to improve the tourism product in Tobago the sum of $11 million allocated
was expended to pursue the following achievements:
installation of lights along the upper walkway at Fort King George Heritage Park
construction of a ramp to international standards for senior citizens and physically
challenged persons
