Early Childhood Education

The THA continued to facilitate the central government’s aim to institutionalise formal,
quality and inclusive education in 2013.

The programme to refurbish and maintain existing childhood centres progressed
satisfactorily in 2013 with the refurbishment of Early Childhood Centres at Buccoo, Mt. St.
George, Signal Hill, Mt. Grace, Speyside, Mt. Pleasant and Lanse Fourmi with expenditure of
approximately $1.4 million.

Additionally, sites have been identified for five (5) additional Centres which would be
located in the following areas of Belle Garden, Roxborough, Milford Court, Courland and
Adventure. Designs were prepared for new schools and pre-qualification of contractors
undertaken.
Primary Education

The Primary School Programme was allocated $15.8 million in fiscal year 2013 for the
construction of new primary schools and extension, refurbishment and improvement to existing
primary schools.
53.
Major works were done at several primary schools. Funding in this area amounted to
$9.1 million which comprise:
upgrades to the Scarborough R.C. School which included the construction of an
office for the principal, construction of a retaining wall in addition to plumbing and
drainage works at a cost of $2.1 million
painting, roof, ceiling and electrical works undertaken at Bon Accord Government at
a cost of $1.1million dollars
construction of a new annex at Lambeau Anglican at a cost of $1.1 million
