The provision of quality health care continued to be a priority in Tobago in fiscal 2013.
The upgrade of the hospital laundry at Shaw Park was completed which included construction
works and the installation and testing of the equipment. The sum of $0.8 million was utilised for
these activities.

The sum of $0.3 million was also utilised for the development of a Non Communicable
Disease Registry to control and reverse the impact of chronic non-communicable diseases such
as diabetes and hypertension. This database will help public health officials to have a better
understanding of the nature of non-communicable diseases in Tobago and ultimately lead to
better health outcomes.

During the fiscal year, information from the recently concluded health needs assessment
and other data sources were used to develop a Strategic Plan for the Division of Health and
Social Services for 2013-2018. An operational plan was also developed for 2014-2015.
29.
In an effort to improve waste disposal services in Tobago, the Division of Health
conducted studies to characterise the waste collected for disposal at the Studley Park Integrated
Waste Disposal Facility. The third phase of the study was completed during this year fiscal year.
Sport and Recreation
30.
For fiscal 2013, the Assembly spent the sum of $68.8 million on Sport and Recreation
development programmes and projects in Tobago as follows:
•
illumination of eleven (11) playing fields s at a cost of $22 million
•
reconstruction of a drainage system and relaying of the Mondo Track at the Dwight
Yorke Stadium at a cost of $11 million
•
completion of swimming pool at Kendal at a cost of $17 million with ongoing works
to the facility being 30 percent complete
