the evidence base for policies and programmes.
Currently in the Post Field Work - Data Analysis
Stage, the MICS 4 Report is expected to be
completed by November 2013.
Under the auspices of the Ministry of the People
and Social Development, a Nationwide Study
on the Effects of Gambling in Trinidad was also
undertaken. This study presented a valuable
opportunity to measure the level of gambling in
the society and to provide baseline data on this
phenomenon.
The objectives of the study, inter alia, were to:
i. Obtain a reliable estimate of the proportion
of society that engages in gambling activities;
ii. Identifyandevaluate thesocial andeconomic
impacts
of
pathological/compulsive
gambling on individuals, their relationships,
families, workplace productivity and society
as a whole;
iii. Discuss the implications and make
recommendations based on research
findings; and
iv. Establish a benchmark for ascertaining
addiction based on frequency of gambling.
The study examined a number of issues
including the problem of gambling, engagement
in gambling activities and perceptions of
gambling, gambling and the family, andgambling
and workplace productivity. The findings of the
study are expected to be submitted to Cabinet
and thereafter publicly disseminated.
A Nationwide Study on the Status of Males in
TrinidadandTobagowasalsofinalisedinfiscal2013,
by theMinistryof PeopleandSocial Development.
This study examined critical aspects of males in
Trinidad and Tobago, in the areas of education,
employment, family life, violence and crime. This
study is expected to provide some rich insights
into the social participation and experiences
of males, particularly young males and other
vulnerable populations. The findings of the study
are expected to have a significant impact on
policy formulation and programme development.
The outcomes of the study are expected to be
submitted to Cabinet and thereafter publicly
disseminated.

In fiscal 2013, the economic and social outlook
forTobagocontinued tobepositiveas theTobago
House of Assembly (THA) strived towards the
goal of long-term sustainable development.
The Assembly, through its Comprehensive
Economic Development Plan (CEDP), first
articulated in 2005, endeavored to achieve
these objectives through its implementation of
