necessary for life after school and includes
topics such as budgeting and work ethics;
• Unveiled the St. Augustine Education
City Committee logo in August 2012 and
commenced a public consultation, by
the Committee on Traffic Management,
Transportation and Pedestrianisation;
• Launched on June 17th 2013, the Hop-a-
Bus service. This is a collaborative initiative
between the MTEST, the St. Augustine
Education City Committee and the Ministry
ofTransport.Thisservicewill fosterenhanced
access and interconnectivity throughout
St. Augustine and surrounding areas by
providing free transport to students at all
levels (including tertiary), and the elderly.
This service is also available to the general
public, at a minimal cost.
Over the past fiscal the respective agencies
under MTEST have achieved the following:
National Training Agency (NTA)
• Hosted the launch of World Skills Trinidad
and Tobago in July 2012. This provided an
opportunity for hundreds of young persons
between the ages of 15 – 21 to compete in a
plethora of technical vocational skill areas for
a chance to represent Trinidad and Tobago at
the World Skills International competition. The
World Skills Trinidad and Tobago Competition
was officially opened in October 2012;
• Hosted the Career Fair and Skills Expo 2012 in
September 2012;
• Launched the National District Career Fairs in
January 2013;
• Signed
MoUs
with
the
Community
Environmental
Protection
Enhancement
Programme (CEPEP) and the Unemployment
Relief Programme (URP) to facilitate the
training and certification through the Caribbean
Vocational Qualification (CVQ).
The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT)
• Hosted the Animae Caribe Festival in October
2012;
• Launched theUTTScarborough– theEducation
Campus in Tobago in January 2013;
• Launched the first programme of the Aviation
Institute of Trinidad and Tobago at the NHSL
compound in Couva, on April 3rd 2013;
• Opened the UTT’s Southern Academy of the
Performing Arts (SAPA) On 19th April 2013;
• Launched the UTT Ramlila Institute and the Pan
Institute, which will both be based at SAPA;
• Hosted the first Annual Arts and Disabilities
Conference at NAPA Port of Spain, in
collaboration with the Consortium of Disability
Organisations (CODO), the Embassy of
the United States and First Citizens Asset
Management, On May 4th 2013;
• Hosted an Arts & Disabilities Music Festival on
May 10th,2013;
• Launched the country’s first ever Worker
Productivity School at the OAS construction site
for the San Fernando to Point Fortin Highway at
Golconda In June 2013.
The University of the West Indies (UWI)
• Commenced construction on the Centre for
Workforce Research and Development (CWRD)
at UWI on July 10th 2012, at an expected cost of
TT$1.5 million;
• Commenced construction works for the UWI
South Campus in September 2012;
• Signed an MOU with NEDCO in October 2012
for entrepreneurial development for students
and opened an on-campus NEDCO sub-office;
• Launched the Masters in TVET programme in
March 2013;
• Hosted the 3rd Annual Symposium on Service
Learning and Community Engagement inMarch
2013.
