Government ofTrinidadandTobagowishes to
establish as the basis for youth development
in Trinidad and Tobago.
• The National Family Services (NFS) is
responsible for services that include
Counselling, Adoption, Foster Care and
Parenting guidance. The Parenting Unit,
which was established in February 2011,
is a sub-component of the NFS and is
responsible for implementing the Parenting
Programme which was approved by Cabinet
in 2013. For fiscal 2013, the following was
undertaken under the Unit:
• Conducted Parenting Programmes at
various locations in the Port-of-Spain
and Diego Martin regions in conjunction
with the MPSD’s Poverty Reduction
Programme;
• Hosted
a
Parent
Workshop
on
“Bullying” at the Inter-Disciplinary Child
Development Centre Couva;
• Hosted a workshop for men on self-
development in June 2013;
• Hosted a workshop entitled: “My Child
and Me” with the Ministry of Education
Student Support Services Division
Parent Education;
• Developed a procedural process for the
programme implementation for the
Parenting Programme roll out;
• Maintained a Parenting Education and
Support Organisations in Trinidad and
Tobago Database;
• Continued
preparations
for
intra-
regional stakeholder consultations;
• Developed data collection instruments
for parenting needs assessments;
• Developed the Parenting Unit Policy;
• Developed Programmes for Service
Delivery: workshops, parent support
groups, PTAs, caravans, internal clients
and general media;
• Developed Process Maps for the Unit
on Parenting Unit Deliverables and
Treatment of Clients.
C. The Socially Displaced
Street Dwelling is a perennial challenge for the
GoRTT. The Government is therefore committed
toprovidingtheopportunityforsociallydisplaced
individuals to access the resources and facilities
that will assist them to transform their lives
and contribute to the productive development
of the country. In December 2012, the Inter-
Agency Unit (IAU) was established under the
purview of the MPSD. The IAU has responsibility
for the voluntary/involuntary removal of street
dwellers.
Over the period October to March 2013, the
following were achieved:
• 80 street dwellers have been voluntarily
removed from the streets and have started
the program of assessment under the care
of the Inter-Agency Unit at Transformed Life
Ministry;
• 20 clients have received birth certificates
and 30 applications are pending;
• 20 clients have received their national
identification cards;
• One client has successfully graduated from
the program and is currently employed and
is living independently;
• One client is currently receiving physical
therapy at the EricWilliamsMedical Sciences
Complex to enable him to walk without the
use of a walker;
• 17 clients have been transferred to Piparo
Empowerment Centre for rehabilitation
before reintegration into society.
D. Persons With Disabilities
The GoRTT is committed to the full integration
of persons with disabilities into all aspect of
national life, and to providing them with the
highest level support to enable them to achieve
