i. National Cultural Mapping Exercise
In 2013, Work has commenced on the execution
of the National Cultural Mapping Exercise,
towards the development of a Cultural Mapping
Toolkit.Theexerciseparameters includebaseline
data, creative arts, cultural industries, festivals,
facilities and public organisation. Participants
are currently being identified to participate in
the survey.
This Cultural Map will be used to guide strategic
planning and data driven policy analysis for the
sector. The exercise is expected to be completed
in 2014, with the production of a mapping report
and a finalised Cultural Map.
ii. National Registry of Artists and Cultural
Workers
This is an ongoing initiative of the Ministry, the
National Registry of Artists and Cultural Workers
facilitated the registration of performing artists,
in addition to certifying film, video and music
productions as local entertainment or culture.
As at June 2013, 164 applicants have been
approved for registration and received
certification of work. Certificate categories
include but are not limited to:
• Cultural Workers (9),
• Artists (86),
• Cultural Organisations (23),
• Work by Individuals (19), and
• Work by Organisations (27).
The introduction of The National Registry will
enable the provision of data to CARICOM’s
Regional Registry of Artists and Cultural
Workers, which would facilitate free movement
within the CSME, and within Europe via the
Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
iii. New Vision Competitiveness Award
The New Vision Competitiveness Award offers
financial and technical support for the leaders
in the foremost areas of the cultural sector. The
areas of interest include dance, drama, music,
visual art, design, literature and media, which
projects may contribute significantly to the GDP
and /or future employment. For fiscal 2013,
three projects have thus far received funding:
• CaribbeanMusicGroupforaFilmproduction:
‘PanWe Are the World’,
• Trinitunes.com for website development,
and
• KMP Music Lab for a TV show ‘Building the
Beats’.
“Pan We Are the World” commenced filming;
works on the website upgrade are in progress.
Trinitunes.com and Building the Beats began
filming in June 2013.
Previous recipients of this award included:
1. Mr. Roger Boothman for the recording of a
compilation of his unique contribution to
music.
2. Mr. Leroy Wilson, Pan 2000, for steel pan
accessory development.
iv. Music School in the Community
Music School in the Community, formerly known
as Music School in the Pan Yard, was created
by the Ministry as a means of developing a
more holistic approach to music education in
terms of the teaching and learning of music; the
development and enhancement of performance
skills, and the knowledge of music literacy.
Music School in the Community incorporates a
mentorship programme entitled the Artiste-in-
Residence Initiative. Master artistes and icons
serve as mentors, to share their knowledge,
provide guidance, motivation and emotional
support to students and participants. Icons and
artistes assigned to the programme were Dr.
Roy Cape, Mr. Errol Ince, Mr. Pelham Goddard,
Mr. Leston Paul, Mr. Anthony Woodroffe, and Mr.
Joseph Rivers.
In 2013, Cabinet was approached for the
expansion of Music Schools in the Community
to increase the venues from six to twenty, as
